The conference aims to shed light on the role of communication in, by and about organisations in processes of social transformation, focusing on current transformation efforts aimed at social, ecological and economic sustainability. This is linked to areas of conflict surrounding issues such as climate change, biodiversity, energy supply, nutrition, economic growth, inequality, migration, democracy and justice, which are the subject of communicative negotiation processes involving various organised stakeholders. In view of the current social crises, the example of socio-ecological transformation also raises the question of when and why attempts at social transformation fail. The field of research that deals with sustainability communication is therefore particularly relevant for the conference, although a comparative examination of other transformation processes, such as the transformation of political systems or technological transformations, can also provide important contributions.
