Bachelor of Arts "Political Science"

The BA degree course leads to a professionally qualifying degree after just six semesters. In addition to political science, students must choose another BA subject to study to an equivalent extent.

Furthermore, students must also choose an element from the list of ‘Optional Studies’ with language courses, rhetoric and writing practice, or the possibility of studying a third subject (with a reduced scope) or choosing a specialisation in political science. The two BA subjects must be chosen before the start of the degree course, and the focus of the ‘Optional Studies’ is determined in the first semesters of your studies.

Studies and applications

In the Political Science (B.A.) degree course, you will acquire fundamental academic and key qualifications for analysing texts and statistics. In addition to theoretical and methodological skills, the course will equip you with the communication skills you need to understand, classify and evaluate political phenomena and communicate them in a wide variety of social contexts. You will complete a total of nine modules in the following areas of teaching and research: political theory and the history of ideas, comparative political science, political sociology and international politics. The content of each module offers a range of options.

The B.A. degree course is divided into modules, which are completed at the end of the semester with a module examination. At the end of the degree course, you prove the breadth of the knowledge you have gained in a cross-module oral examination. In addition, at the end of the degree course, you write a B.A. dissertation, independently working on a selected issue from the realm of political science.

The B.A. degree course Political Science can only be started in the winter semester and usually lasts six semesters. There are currently no entry requirements. Political Science can be combined with almost all subjects at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and some subjects at other faculties (e.g. some areas of law).
