Parties, Institutions & Preferences (PIP)

The PIP is a new database for analytical macro-comparative research. Unlike other databases in comparative politics, it not only collects data on major political institutions such as parties, governments, first and second chambers, and presidents including their ideological preferences, it also comprises a time-variant corporatism index. The data comes with Stata do-files for estimating analytical concepts such as agenda setters and veto players.

In addition to the analysis of national governments, the database also contains information for modeling the legislative process of the European Union. Data is available for 36 countries from 1945 to 2020, and for 45 countries from 1960 to 2018 for the corporatism index.

This dataverse provides ready-made models for policy analyses, but also allows individual researchers to create their own models using the provided framework. The PIP thus helps improving analytical analyses in macro-comparative research.

All datasets, syntaxes, etc. can be downloaded from Harvard dataverse.
