Sustainability in the Baltic Sea Region (since 2019)

The EU Baltic Sea Strategy aims to transform the Baltic Sea region into a sustainable region and the guiding principle of countless regional initiatives and projects. As a member of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Baltic Sea Region Research (IFZO), I am involved in various work packages on sustainability transformation in the region.

Agricultural Policy and Rural Development (since 2012)

The project is part of the research group "Think rural!" at Greifswald University. It analyzes the differences in the rural development policies of the German Länder and examines the factors that explain these differences.

Supporting agricultural policy for paludiculture (since 2019)

As part of my research on agricultural policy, I analyse the underlying political conditions for paludiculture. Paludiculture (‘palus’ – Latin for ‘swamp, marsh’) is the agricultural and forestry use of peatlands. The concept was developed at the Greifswald Moor Centrum (GMC) as a sustainable method of landuse on organic soils.

How do Types of Procedure Affect the Politicization of Constitutional Courts (2011-2016, together with Dr. Michael Hein)

The project examines the influence of the types of procedure on the politicisation of constitutional courts. Next to the theoretical discussion of politicization, our research analyzes different European constitutional courts statistically on a comparative way.

Regional Cooperation and Regionalization in the Baltic Sea Region in the case of Higher Education (PhD project, 2006-2010)

In my PhD project, I developed an index in order to analyze the regional embeddedness of higher education institutions in the Baltic Sea Region and their role in the regionalization process. Additionally, the project examined the role of regional political organizations (Council of Baltic Sea States, Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference, Nordic Council of Ministers) in this process.

Parliamentarism and Representation in the German Länder

Furthermore, I do research on Länder Parliamentarism (especially in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) and the representation function in regional parliaments.
