Chair of Communication Studies

The Chair of Communication Studies deals with issues related to social communication - from interpersonal communication to group communication and public communication.

The Chair researches and teaches the sociological foundations of interpersonal communication as well as the structural conditions for online communication and public communication in a pluralistic society. We look into communication, media and public sphere theories, the change in media organisations and structures as a result of digitalisation and networking, as well as journalism, communication and media ethics, media use and media impact.

In teaching, we primarily impart basic theoretical knowledge and methodological research skills. Other qualifications that are indispensable for professionals in the field of communication are also an important component, including the rhetorical use of body and voice in public speaking, presentation techniques and practical communication skills in journalism and public relations.
